Import point datasource

A point datasource containing a datamodel to store point datasets, including their metadata, is available as a pre-defined GeolinQ datasource. A GeolinQ datasource is a XML file with point definitions, metadata definitions and color styles created in a GeolinQ instance. It is available for distribution to exchange datamodels between different GeolinQ instances.

To import the point datasource, navigate to Datasources. A list with available datasources is shown. Click Add Datasource, a dialog opens to import a datasource. Click the Choose file button and select the file "20170113_bathymetry_tutorial.xml" is extracted from the downloaded zipfile on the file system. This XML file contains the datasource definition. Click Import to start the import task.

Import point datasource

A list is shown with submitted tasks. Click on the Filter icon to refresh the task list to monitor the task status. The task is successfully executed when the task status of the submitted task is "Finished".

Navigate back to Datasources. A new datasource "Bathymetry" is added to the list of datasources. Click on the datasource name to open the datasource and click on the tab Class Definitions. Three class definitions are shown:

Class definitions

The Survey class definition defines the metadata attributes of a survey. In hydrography a survey is conducted to collect water depths in a certain area using echosounders or LIDAR. Click on Survey to see the list of metadata attributes:

Metadata attributes

For each survey metadata such as survey year, location, platform, quality and vertical reference must be stored. The GeolinQ user is free to add additional metadata attributes to the Survey definition if required. For attributes of attribute type GlReferenceAttribute the value is selected from a dataset. The name of this dataset is shown in the column Referred dataset.

Navigate back to list with class definitions by clicking on Class Definitions in breadcrumb menu. The Sounding class definition defines the attribute(s) of a sounding. In hydrography a sounding is point measuremnt of a depth obtained by an echosounder of LIDAR. Click on Sounding to see the Depth attribute of the sounding.

Depth attribute

Click on the Depth attribute name to see the attribute definition.

DepthAttributeAttributes

The Depth attribute is restricted by the quantity "DepthNegative". The quantity restricts the range of attribute value s.

Click on the Bathymetry datasource in the breadcrumb menu and click on the tab Colour scales to see the list of available colour scales. The column Quantity shows to which quantity a colour scale is linked. Click on the color scale name Shallow to see the color scale defintion of this color scale that is linked to the quantity "DepthNegative". The color scale links absolute value ranges to colors to be used for attribute visualisation.
